How to choose mining hardware
ASIC vs. GPU mining
ASICs are purpose-built for a single algorithm and dominate Bitcoin and Litecoin mining with unbeatable efficiency. GPU rigs are more flexible — you can switch between algorithms and coins — but they can't compete with ASICs on SHA-256 or Scrypt hashrate per watt.
Efficiency is everything
The most important spec isn't raw hashrate — it's joules per terahash (J/TH). Electricity is your largest ongoing cost. A miner that's 20% more efficient can mean the difference between profit and loss, especially when difficulty rises or prices dip.
Noise and heat management
Industrial ASICs are loud — typically 70-80 dB. If you're mining at home, you'll need sound isolation or immersion cooling. Heat output also matters: every watt consumed becomes heat that must be removed, which adds to your cooling costs.
